How to get
an 8.0
for IELTS Writing
Task 2
About me
I’ve paddled amongst crocodiles in northern Australia, dived deep below Antarctic sea ice, climbed into the clouds in Nepal and mountain-biked the Andes mountains.
But nothing has given me as much pleasure as writing well.
So I’ve done a lot of it. I’ve written books, thousands of magazine articles, countless academic essays, a series of government reports and articles for scientific journals.
After that I pivoted to the teaching of good writing to migrants, asylum seekers and visa applicants as well as school and university students.
What I have learnt from all of this experience is this: we learn by copying others, just like toddlers mimicking the speech of their parents and siblings. We learn too when someone encourages and helps us try something new: riding a bike, for example. And we learn most by making mistakes and finding out why.
This is the core of my teaching method. Example and immediate feedback are my tools. Give these tutorials, practice exercises and timed tests a go and see if I can help you to write much better too. I think I can.
